Plans

My mom is coming over in April, and we (hubby & I) are already thinking about things we need to do before she gets here. For starters, we want to convert the study/computer room into mom's bedroom. We're hiring someone to install french doors for privacy. We are also looking for a bed that best suits her, but there's just so many to choose from. There's adjustable beds, platform beds, daybeds, sofa beds and so on and so forth. Mom doesn't really care what we get for her as long as long as it has firm mattress for her back.

We also want to put up a fence in our backyard, in preparation for the swing playset mom is buying for the kids in the spring. We just don't want uninvited "strays" (other kids) in our backyard especially when we're not around because we are liable for anything that happens to them while on our property. We definitely want to avoid that.

It's almost February now, and pretty soon it'll be April! We're all excited to see mom!!!

AI

Currently watching American Idol audition in Miami, and guess what....there's this cute tiny little Pinay who just passed the audition! She's going to Hollywood!! Her name is Ramielle Malubay (i think). IMO, her voice is better than Jasmine Trias, but I really can't tell just by hearing a few stanzas of an Aretha Franklin song (her audition piece). Hope to see more of her!!!

What? Am I reading it right? $8 for prescription glasses? I couldn't believe it at first, but yes folks, it's true! For just $8, you'll get prescription glasses with case from Zenni optical.

ZenniOptical.com Sells Stylish Prescription Glasses Online. They offer a huge selection of frames, with single vision lens, sunsensor (potochromic)lens, tinted suglasses lens, bifocal lens and progressive lens.

Amen

Sunday's sermon was "Forgive Your Enemies."

Toward the end of the service the minister asked, "How
many of you have forgiven your enemies?"

80% held up their hands. The minister then repeated
his question. All responded this time except one small,
elderly lady.

"Mrs. Jones, are you not willing to forg ive your enemies?"

"I don't have any," she replied, smiling sweetly.

"Mrs. Jones, that is very unusual. How old are you?"

"Ninety-eight," she replied.

"Oh Mrs. Jones, would you please come down in front and
tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not
have an enemy in the world?"

The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle,
faced the congregation and said, "I outlived the bitches."

Beauty Pageant

My uncle who's now my aunt (after the surgery) used to join a lot of (gay) beauty pageants. My college friends called her Barbie because of her small waistline and long legs. And because she's beautiful and talented, she always brought home the trophies and engraved plaques, plus cash prizes.

It's been ages since I last saw her, and I do miss her a lot. We talk on the phone occassionaly just to catch up. I hope someday we can visit Japan where she's based. It'll be good to see her once again!

HD ready

Is your TV HD ready?? Ours are. But we can't tell the difference with the picture quality as of yet because we haven't subscribed to High Definition channels. I know in time we will. And when that time comes, we need to buy
HDMI switches which acts like a router. The three inputs can accommodate the simultaneous connection of up to three high definition video sources, such as satellite systems, HD DVD, Blu-Ray Disc, and PS3. The output then sends the high definition audio/video signals to a high definition display. Now, that's something I can look forward to!

Financial Reporting Software

One of our new year's resolution for 2008 is to get our finances straight. Not that there's anything wrong with our finances, it's just that I thought this would be a good year to be more aggressive with investing. I've always been conservative with my investment choices because I'm afraid to take risks. Moreso, because I'm not "that" educated (yet) with the different investment schemes and how it can impact our overall finances.

It's not like I'm one of those big multi-million companies who use financial reporting software. I sure wish it's available for people like me. I tell you, life's so much easier with it!

Sad

Oh my God. Heath Ledger, 28, star of Brokeback Mountain was found dead in his apartment.

It's shocking. He is too young. May he rest in peace.

Fibber

Watching Deal or No Deal on TV. The contestant is a young woman, mid to late twenties, married for 2 years to a man she said is in the military. No big deal. Cool. Until she mentioned that she auditioned because they didn't have health insurance. WHATTTTTTTTTT???????????? He's in the freakin' Military and they didn't have health insurance? Right at this moment, my nostrils are flaring up. That's the biggest fib I've heard in a while. I am a military wife. I know for a fact health insurance is 100% covered by the military. I know for a fact the military guarantees roof over your head. I know for a fact you are guaranteed to eat more than 3 times a day with the military paycheck. Heck, they even pay 100% for lapband surgeries!

I know she's probably just trying to get the banker's sympathy. But I don't like hearing bullshit. Specially at the expense of the military. Girl, get your facts straight. I hope you lose.

3-day weekend

Thanks to Martin Luther King Jr., we're enjoying a 3-day weekend. My body clock is a bit out of whack but I'm lovin' it. It's nice not to care about bedtime and to sleep in once in a while. It's nice just to chill around the house, play Wii and sing karaoke. I also started reading the book I received on Christmas! Good times, good times.

How did you spend your weekend????

Hot or Not

You Are More Mild Than Wild

You're confident, and you really aren't concerned with how "hot" you are.

Other people's ideas of what's sexy don't concern you. And this is exactly what makes you attractive.

Yan Ang Pinoy!!!!

*Renaldo Lapuz*

I thought he was Chinese at first, judging by his accent. Steve kept on telling me he's Filipino. I said NOOOOOOOOOOO. He said YESSSSSSS. Until I saw his name. I doubt there's a Chinese guy out there with a name like Renaldo Lapuz. Darn, hubby knows Pinoys better than I do!

Movers

Moving can be really stressful if you don't do your homework. I've heard a lot of horror stories that could have been avoided by getting organized and planning ahead. Yes, believe it or not, you can prepare your family for a smooth move. First, you have to find a reliable mover. The internet is a great tool to find out about the company's profile and read customer reviews. There's a lot of companies out there who are willing to go above and beyond to facilitate a smooth move for you and your family. Shleppers mover NYC is one of them. They've established good name through hardwork, dedication, and pride. So if you live in New York and are planning to move, give them a call.

Clip on earrings

Now that I have a new haircut, I can show off my new earrings, NOT! My ears aren't pierced. Growing up, it's something I've always wanted but never got to do. I used to envy those girls with cute earrings. Thank God for clip on earrings, I can still show off beautiful earrings even though my ears aren't pierced. There's a lot of styles and designs I can chose from. From classic, to contemporary, to hip, to just about anything! I can accessorize without going through the pain of having my ears pierced.
It's just awesome!

Me Time

Have a 1 PM hair appointment today. I'm ready to have my hair chopped and colored (err, just highlights). My last one was in April or May last year (in Germany) so it's about time I do this! I'm not really familiar with the salon I'm going to, but hey, I'm willing to take the risk.

I also made an appointment at the Spa for next Sunday. I'm having the Medley, a blend of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, and Aromatherapy full-body massage. I also booked a "quickie" facial. I received the Spa gift certificate from hubby last Christmas. It's good for two appointments. oohhmmmmm

It's 2008, time to focus on ME!

Had a great time watching 27 Dresses last night. The cinema was packed (as expected on a Friday night). Unbeknownst to me, hubby had arranged for his sister to babysit the kids. He didn't even tell me of his plans to take me to the movies until the day of. That was sweet!

Despite the current housing slump, it seems like Florida Mortgage companies are still on top of their ballgame. No surprise there, as Florida has more to offer than just real estate.

Warm fuzzy email

If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

1. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

2. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

3. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

4. When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

5. Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

6. Take naps.

7. Stretch before rising.

8. Run, romp, and play daily.

9. Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

10. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

11. On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass.

12. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

13. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

14. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout. Just run right back and make friends.

15. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

16. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.

17. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.

18. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

19. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

The Gratitude Campaign

For those of you who have loved ones in the service, I know you can relate.
To those who took the time to say "thanks"...to that man who at the grocery store who stopped and shook my husband's hand, to those who tried to pay for his meals at the restaurant, to those strangers who gave hugs, and to those who uttered a simple "thanks", we truly appreciate it.

*Thanks Ruthie for the link!

Emu Australia

Remember when UGG boots was first introduced to retail consumers? I didn't know what to make of it. It was sort of UGG-ly, and I was so sure it's not going to last. It did. People just love them, I don't know why.

Living here where winter is a little bit harsher, I do see the need for this type of boots. I'm not particularly fond of UGGs so I'm glad I found Emu Australia. I think the collection is much hipper and way cooler. Definitely a better alternative. What do you think?

Weird

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was holding a pregnancy test looking intently at the two lines. It's positive. How could it be? S had the V procedure before we left Germany. And we've been very careful. Very Very CAREFUL. Panic. Confusion. Fear. I'm too old for another one!

Thank God I opened my eyes and woke up from the dream! It was such a vivid one that It took time for me to convince myself that it was indeed nothing more than a dream. I got up and went straight to the bathroom to relieve myself and got a pleasant surprise. The otherwise loathed monthly visitor was welcomed with a smile. Whew, what a relief!

Oh Happy Day! Michigan Wolverine's toughest rival Ohio State Buckeyes got slaughtered in Louisiana (Bowl Championship Series). Hubby is very happy :-)

Search Engine

I am very particular about the search engine I use online. I look for ease in navigation and of course the relevance of the search result. It is very annoying to see irrelevant links. It's a total waste of time to filter thru all the information that is presented right before me. That's why I find it appealing when a search engine only provides useful tips rather than thousands of useless results.
New Tips Search Engine is really useful for people like me. The moment you click on the link, you'll see relevant tips on different categories. It covers every imaginable topic you can think of and is very easy to navigate.

Movie marathon

Finally got to watch I Am Legend starring Will Smith. I've heard so many good things about the movie and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. I'm not going to talk about the plot or how the story went because I'm pretty sure most of you have seen it already. I did shed a few tears though, when Will's character was left with no choice but to kill his most beloved companion Sam with his own hands. It was heartbreaking. The screen was able to register the anguish on his (Will's) face.

For some behind the scenes... Did you know that for almost the entire duration of the movie, my bladder was about to explode but I kept my butt glued to my seat? And that when I finally decided to take a bathroom break I didn't know there was only about 5 minutes left in the movie and I missed some of the most intense scenes? I was so pissed, figuratively speaking.

After the movie, we picked up the kids from my in-laws' house, ate dinner and headed home to watch yet another entertaining movie, Stardust. I find Robert de Niro's character really funny. The kids enjoyed it as well. They got to stay up late and munch on popcorn and cookies! It was close to midnight when the movie finished. The kids went to sleep right away, but hubby and I decided to continue with our movie marathon. We are currently hooked on season 3 of LOST. It's a weird plot, I tell you, but very interesting nonetheless. I dozed off several times. Good thing hubby was patient in filling me in with what I've missed.

The weekend is really short. I can feel Monday already creeping in. BUMMER!

Smarter..next time.

Oh, what a headache! I bought a digital scale so I can keep track of my weight. The scale works fine but because I'm "El Cheapo", I bought a very inexpensive (read: CHEAP) battery. Well, what do I know? That darn thing (scale) hasn't functioned well because of the battery. One day I'm 100 lbs (not that I'm complaining), the next I'm up 140 lbs. Hard to believe I gained 40 lbs in just one day. Nor that I'm only 100 lbs. The last time I weighed 100 lbs, I was probably 8 years old, no butt, no boobs, and 4-ft tall. I should have bought lithium battery, just as hubby said. I should have listened.

Lesson learned.

Cosmetic Dentistry

What is the first thing you notice when talking to somebody? Is it the eyes? The nose, or lips perhaps? The first thing I notice is teeth. Ever wonder how actors and actresses in Hollywood achieve the so called megawatt smile? Cosmetic dentistry, of course!

The good news is, cosmetic dentistry is not just for the rich and famous anymore. Even the regular Joes can take advantage of the technological advancement in dentistry. And if you live in NC, you're in luck because a very reputable charlotte cosmetic dentist is in the area. So, what are you waiting for? Don't miss this opportunity to improve your smile!

When disaster strikes

I don't know what's going on, but the weather has become very unpredictable lately and it's disturbing. Just this morning on the ABC morning news, they're predicting a 10-ft snow in California. Snow? California? In Florida, farmers are trying very hard to harvest as many citrus fruits as they can because the sudden drop in temperature is posing a threat to the crops. More cases of tornadoes have been reported. Just recently we experienced a winter storm in the midwest, paralyzing some cities when the power went down.

What can we do in situations like these? We can't prevent natural disasters but we can be prepared for it at the very least. Make sure you have ample food and water to last for several days. Check your medical supplies. Battery operated radio. Flashlights. Blankets. More importantly, stay home unless an evacuation order is in place.

Fiber Optic Cables

I've always wondered if High Definition really makes a big difference. Supposedly, It allows your HDTV to deliver the sharp picture, vivid colors and surround sound. Both our LCD TVs are HD ready. But I don't think I'm ready to pay extra for HD subscription. What we did was use fiber optic cables to help boost the cable reception. We have great picture, with vivid colors and surround sound. It's cheaper and it works!
