Brrr Again!

It's winter in Michigan

And the gentle breezes blow,
70 miles per hour at 52 below!
Oh, how I love Michigan
When the snows up to your butt;
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose is frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave Michigan
Cause I'm frozen to the ground.

Was laughing my A$$ off when I read this forwarded email. We are currently under a winter storm (again!). Send in the moving trucks, I need to get out of here! lol

New Year, New Home

Finally, after almost 2 decades of renting a flat a Germany, mom and stepdad embarked in a new adventure- home ownership. They bought a duplex early December last year (the other half of the duplex already occupied by my brother and his family). They wanted to move-in before Christmas but the renovation team was a bit slow so the move was pushed back to this coming Saturday. She has a lot of friends who offered to help with the cleaning and moving, but you can just imagine the stress mom is having right now. She won't be needing diet pills to shed the pounds because the stress will do it her. I'll be glad when this is over!

Argh

Last Friday didn't start quite right for me. I had to go to work while the rest of my family slept in. Kids are snowed out of school and Steve has a 4-day weekend from work. I got in my car, started the engine, and while waiting for it to warm up, I decided to get out of the car to check the windshield wiper. I don't know if it's OLD age, or simply just me being a scatter brain, but I let go of the clutch without putting the gear on neutral first. The Jeep jerked forward, then BHAM! It hit the freezer which in turn hit the garage wall. The loud thud it created didn't sound too good. The freezer suffered some minor cuts and bruises (more like a big dent hehe), and the garage wall now has two big puncture holes on it. The Jeep is alright though, not even a scratch.

I was already running behind so I backed out of the garage quickly without hesitation. I stopped to check my mirror and got another nervous moment when I realized that I was just a few inches away from hitting hubby's work car. I had forgotten he parks it on our driveway at night. I shuddered at the thought of hitting a Government car! Big trouble, Oh Lordy! I was a bit pissed at myself for such lack of focus that morning.

Anyway, I got to work with no further injury (to my ego). I called up hubby to inform him of my little mishap. I told him to go and check out the garage. He laughed so hard that I threatened to kick his ass once I get home. I couldn't help but laugh with him. The morning stress was quickly forgotten. What I find endearing about him is that he finds the good out of even the nastiest situation. If the role had been reversed, and the mishap happened to him instead of me, I probably would have chopped and chewed his head off. God really has a funny way of making me realize how fortunate I am to be married to such a wonderful guy.

mall rat- NOT

Are you a mall rat? Do you spend countless hours at the mall browsing each and every store in sight? I know a couple people who are. One even confessed that being in a mall is like being in her favorite candy store. She said shopping relieves stress. I don't know....but I'm the opposite.

I hate being in the mall, specially when it's crowded. I get disoriented quite easily, I always end up looking for the exit signs even before I begin to shop. It's just way too much for me to handle. I'm really weird, aren't I?

Brrr

School's cancelled again today. Yey for the kids! That means a 5-day weekend for them because school was cancelled yesterday and Monday is a federal holiday (MLK). Our xbox 360 and Wii will get plenty of use. I dare not send them outside to play. It's been crazy cold on this part of the planet. The temperature's dropped down to negative 13 this morning, with windchill factor of about negative 20. I hate to see our heating bill this month! Where's global warming when you need it?

David vs Goliath

Another local store in our area recently closed it's door due to the sagging economy. The owner, on a TV interview, said that he just can't compete with the big retail giants anymore. It's sad that small town businesses are getting phased out at an alarming rate right before our eyes. Gone are the days when people would jump on just about any small business opportunity. Small time investors are afraid to risk their hard earned money on a small business that's bound to fail.

Is there still hope?

car insurance

Schools are cancelled today. Kids are happy. The weather has gotten worse. The windchill factor is at negative. Brrr. The roads are bad, too. There's been lots of accidents specially on the expressway. It's treacherous out there. I just don't understand how some people, even on a day like this still drive like maniacs. Just because they have 4-wheel drive, they feel like they're king of the road. What they don't understand that a 4-wheel drive is useless on icy roads, hence the accidents. I just hope they have a good auto insurance because it doesn't seem like the driving habits will change.

Fat Burner

I've been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I'm not a breakfast person but I try to eat something before I go to work in the morning. If there's any truth to what the experts say, I hope to lose weight this way. Breakfast supposedly jumpstarts the body's metabolism, the process by which the body converts the fuel in food to energy. And when the metabolism gets moving, the body starts burning calories. Sure. If not, there's still Leptovox as a fall back.

White Stuff

Thank God it's Friday. Thank God I don't have to be at work tomorrow. Thank God I made it home in one piece tonight. Our part of the planet is currently experiencing heavy snowfall due to what the weather guys call the Alberta Clipper. So far it has dumped about 2.5 inches of snow and we're supposed to have about 10 inches of accumulation by tomorrow. Nice! So if anybody out there needs some snow for personal or business use, just let me know and I'll pack some in shipping boxes and mail them out to yah! Satisfaction not Guaranteed. tee hee
