Birthday Boy

It was by miracle that he was born when he did. Steve was scheduled to deploy to Iraq on May 11th 2003, the same day as my due date. We were both worried that he won't see our little boy before he goes to war. A lot of women, pregnant like me, have resorted to induced labor just so they could give birth early. My doctor said no because he wanted the baby to reach full term for numerous health reasons. And we agreed with him, after all, we wanted what's best for our baby. I left it to God. I prayed for miracle. Either the Army delays hubby's deployment, or I give birth early. Those were the two things I asked for.

On April 25th, 16 days before my due date, I woke up with a cramp in my stomach. I told Steve it was time. He didn't believe me right away, he said it was too early (Alexis was born 2 days late), but was convinced when I showed him spotting on my underwear. We spent half the day at my doctor's office. He sent us home around noon with the instruction to go to the Uniklinik when the contractions get more regular and intense. At 5pm, we checked-in at the hospital. He was born at 10:35 that night. Daddy was able to see and hold him.

To this day, I still believe that a miracle happened. No way was the Army going to delay deployment. But God has a way of showing us He's listening. It was an answered prayer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE BOY! WE LOVE YOU!

Spring break fun

Vacation's over and I'm aching all over. Our first stop was Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse city and we had a really great time at the indoor waterpark.

I felt like a monkey crossing the lilly pad path. I used muscles I never thought I had trying to hold on to dear life. My arms were sore the next day, it was a pain putting a shirt on. But it was worth it. I felt renewed.

Next stop was Mackinac Island. Crossing the bridge was really cool. The total length of the bridge is about 5 miles and connects Michigan's two peninsulas. It's about 950 feet longer than the Golden gate bridge.

The scenery is breath taking and the kids enjoyed hanging out by the bay. It was getting late and we missed the last scheduled ferry ride of the day. Steve and I were contemplating on what to do next and we came up with a very spontaneous idea. We packed the kids back in the SUV and decided to head down South to Frankenmuth, a german town known for its historic hotels. It was 3 hours away but a trip well worth it. We were making hotel reservations in the vehicle as we approached town.

ahhhhh. Made me miss Germany. Good thing mom will be here soon. How about you? How did you spend spring break or lent (whatever the case maybe)?

Make up advice

I'm not your typical girly-girl. I'm not high maintenance specially on skin care products. I do moisturize a lot and I use Nivea lotion for my skin. I don't put a lot of make-up on mainly because I don't know how. I wish I did. I'd love to play with colors/hues, but I'm afraid bright colors will only make me look like a clown. I do use a bit of foundation/face powder, lipstick, mascara and blush when I go to work. I favor earth tones because I think they look more natural.

Do you use a lot of make-up? What advice can you give a novice like me?

Vacation Mode

It's spring break and we're currently at Traverse City, Michigan (5-6 hours away from home). Booked a mini-vacation at Great Wolf Lodge. The scenery is awesome. Kids are excited, so are we. It'll be fun. Stopped by a Coach outlet store along the way. Found the same purse I bought for mom at 50% off. I was a little ticked off that I paid full price, so I did what any normal person would do. I bought another one, different color, with matching wallet for MOI. hahahaha (evil laugh) Can't really blame me though, hubby kept pushing me to get it for myself (he didn't have to push so hard). bwahahahaha

Lent

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Slumdog

I wondered what all the fuzz was about Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscars. I didn't care about the reviews nor the fact that it won 8 out of 10 Oscar nominations. I didn't give it a chance....until....hubby rented the DVD. It's a really good movie. Realistic. Raw. Moving. It even reminded me of my good old Lupang Hinirang, the Philippines. Definitely Oscar worthy.

Anyway, have a hair appointment this afternoon. I'm glad I'm seeing my regular hair stylist this time. The last time I was there, I had to settle for someone else because my stylist was on leave and my hair emergency couldn't wait. I should have waited. Not that the "replacement" didn't do a good job, it's just that I thought she was an AIRHEAD. She talked non-stop and none of what she said made sense. She offered me discount on Tanning products and tanning beds! Can you imagine??? It's like offering a diet pill to a skinny woman. Do I look like I need a tan??? I politely declined and told her I was born with a tan.

On another note, I am currently the top sales person on ID alert product in the whole Bancorp (from the midwest to as far South as Florida), can you imagine? I am getting recognized, and it's getting a little scary. I don't like the attention, but I'm trying to enjoy my 15 minutes.

Have a happy weekend everyone!!!!
